Game overview

Grid Memory is a competitive memory challenge built around encoding and recalling patterns on a grid. Players observe sequences or spatial layouts, then reproduce them under time constraints. Later stages introduce mild interference (brief overlays or similar decoy patterns) so that success depends on robust encoding strategies, not only short-term luck of attention. The mode sits within Competitive Challenges while remaining firmly skill-based.

Target patterns are generated or selected to meet difficulty specifications for the heat. Generation may be seeded for fairness audits. Random pattern content does not award points by chance; points come from accurate recall.

Objective

Reproduce target grids and sequences with maximal accuracy and efficiency to earn the highest challenge score before the timer ends.

Skills involved

Performance in Grid Memory is driven by the skills below. Rankings reflect how well participants apply them under the published rules — not random prize draws.

  • Visual working memory
  • Sequential recall
  • Attention under distraction
  • Interference resistance

Skill factors in detail

  • Capacity and fidelity of visual working memory
  • Effective encoding strategies (chunking, spatial anchors)
  • Resistance to interference and distraction
  • Speed of accurate reproduction
  • Stable performance as difficulty escalates

How scoring works

Each trial presents an encoding phase and a recall phase. Accuracy Score is the primary component: fully correct reproductions earn full trial value; partial credit may apply on multi-cell grids when the format publishes a cell-level marking scheme. Difficulty Weighting increases trial value as grid size, sequence length, or interference level rises. Speed Factor adds a limited bonus for accurate recalls completed quickly, capped to prevent reckless tapping. Error Penalties apply for incorrect cells or sequence positions; repeated rapid guessing can trigger a cool-down. A Progression Bonus accrues for consecutive fully correct trials. Challenge score sums all trial results after validation. Playback and input logs may be retained temporarily for integrity review in prize-eligible events.

Winner determination

The highest validated challenge score wins. In multi-stage competitive challenges, stage scores combine according to the published weighting. Where two challenge configurations are offered (standard vs interference), only scores from the same configuration are ranked together unless a mixed format is explicitly advertised.

Tie breakers

If two or more participants share the same primary score after validation, the following ordered tie-breakers apply:

  1. Higher Accuracy Score component
  2. Greater number of fully correct trials
  3. Higher average difficulty tier completed
  4. Faster mean recall time on fully correct trials
  5. If still tied, a final equal-difficulty grid under sudden-death scoring (full credit or zero)

See also the Eligibility page for platform-wide requirements.

Competition duration

Individual challenges last 7–10 minutes. Tournament-style competitive challenges may span multiple stages over a published period.

Rules

This page summarises how Grid Memory is scored and ranked. The complete, binding conditions are in the Competition Rules. Game-specific lobby notices may add timing or pack details for a particular event; those notices must not conflict with the published rules without clear disclosure.

Fair-play policy

Screen recording for later reconstruction, second-device aids, and collaborative recall during live challenges are prohibited. Unusual perfect-accuracy patterns at extreme speeds may be reviewed. Practise mode is available and clearly separated from prize-eligible runs.

Platform-wide integrity standards are described on Fair Play & Game Integrity.

Responsible play

Grid Memory is intended as skill-based entertainment and competition. Set personal limits, take breaks, and use the tools described on our Responsible Play page. Do not treat competition entry as a way to recover money or chase outcomes.

Free practice

Practice mode is free — no purchase required. Scores from practice do not count toward prize rankings. Use it to learn controls and pacing before any paid competition.
