Game overview
Reaction Gauge measures how quickly and accurately players respond to on-screen stimuli while avoiding false starts. Heats combine simple reaction trials with choice-reaction and go/no-go segments so that raw speed alone is insufficient: players must also inhibit responses when a stop cue appears. Hardware and display differences are mitigated through calibration prompts and fair-start procedures described in the game rules.
Stimulus onset intervals are jittered within fair bounds to prevent rhythm exploitation. Jitter affects when a stimulus appears, not whether a correct response is possible. Rankings remain skill-based on latency and accuracy.
Objective
Achieve the best composite timing score across valid trials by responding quickly to go stimuli and correctly withholding responses on no-go cues.
Skills involved
Performance in Reaction Gauge is driven by the skills below. Rankings reflect how well participants apply them under the published rules — not random prize draws.
- Stimulus recognition
- Response inhibition
- Timing precision
- Sustained attention
Skill factors in detail
- Median reaction latency on valid go trials
- Consistency (low variability) across the heat
- Accurate inhibition on no-go trials
- Recovery after an error without cascading mistakes
- Maintenance of focus across the full heat length
How scoring works
Each valid go trial contributes a Timing Score derived from response latency relative to a published fair window. Faster valid responses earn more points, with diminishing returns below a physiological floor so that impossible times are flagged rather than rewarded. Consistency Bonus rewards low inter-trial variability. False starts (responses before stimulus onset) and no-go errors apply fixed penalties and may exclude the affected trial from timing averages. A small number of warm-up trials are unscored. The heat total combines Timing Score, Consistency Bonus, and penalties. Outlier trials identified by integrity checks (for example, latencies below a human-plausible threshold) are voided and may trigger review.
Winner determination
The highest heat score after integrity validation wins. Multi-heat competitions use summed or averaged heat scores as published. Device calibration acknowledgements may be required before a scored heat begins; failure to complete calibration can render a heat ineligible.
Tie breakers
If two or more participants share the same primary score after validation, the following ordered tie-breakers apply:
- Lower median valid-go latency
- Fewer false starts and no-go errors
- Higher Consistency Bonus
- Better score on the final scored block of trials
- If still tied, a shortened tie-break heat under identical settings

Rules
This page summarises how Reaction Gauge is scored and ranked. The complete, binding conditions are in the Competition Rules. Game-specific lobby notices may add timing or pack details for a particular event; those notices must not conflict with the published rules without clear disclosure.
Fair-play policy
Macro tools, input injection, and modified clients are prohibited. Implausibly low latencies are voided. Players must not obstruct opponents’ environments in shared-space events. Practise heats are clearly labelled and do not affect competitive rankings.
Platform-wide integrity standards are described on Fair Play & Game Integrity.
Responsible play
Reaction Gauge is intended as skill-based entertainment and competition. Set personal limits, take breaks, and use the tools described on our Responsible Play page. Do not treat competition entry as a way to recover money or chase outcomes.
Free practice
Practice mode is free — no purchase required. Scores from practice do not count toward prize rankings. Use it to learn controls and pacing before any paid competition.
